I’m not good at job fairs. I don’t have a suit on campus, so I look like a hobo in my tie and button-up shirt. And did I mention I have to tie my own ties? (Well, I try.) I hate ties -especially when I’m too tired to try to tidily tie my own ties. I’ve lately been just keeping them tied and hanging off a door knob. <\/p>\n
Something else I didn’t have was a leather-bound document portfolio for resumes and CVs. I’m standing there like an idiot holding my paper resume and I’m thinking, “Damn, I did not know<\/em> that there was also a dress code for documents.”<\/p>\n So I’m in the hustle and\/or bustle of the fair and I’m sizing up my options. This hospital is giving out magnets, but Fagen Pharmacy has coffee mugs. Oh, no! Takeda’s leaving in 15 minutes and they’re taking their laundry bags with them! Alright then, fire up the awkward meter, it’s forced conversation time.<\/p>\n I had already scheduled three interviews by this time due to the fact that they were on the website and no one signed up for them. So I interviewed and hopefully, I can land an internship at a faceless, corporate franchise location this summer. With their elevated pay rate, I can make enough working full time for 8 weeks to pay off 6% of Purdue estimated tuition for the upcoming year. <\/p>\n I may be looking at dire financial future and a bleaker-than-people-will-admit job market.
