You know how when you start a game and you choose a character and you level up that character’s skill tree all game? And they have specializations and special equipment but also limitations and weaknesses?
Why did I get the idea that real life operated like that? That I’d pick a “character” and level that up for the rest of my life. Now, obviously, I can’t start the game over and pick a new character.
But no one ever restricted me to a class either.
My identity back when this blog started was rather restricted. Back in high school, back when my identity and direction was still half baked, my class gave me a valuable template to work off of. I was a mathlete, a nerd. I didn’t, I couldn’t, do things that were more associated with the jocks, the theater kids, the band geeks. All those familiar high school archetypes.
And that was a mistake. That much I realize now. And thankfully, it’s not too late for me to do something about that. It’s just hard to know where to begin.
